Niels Christian Boye (abt.1786-1849)
Pioneer and merchant in Iowa City, Iowa, USA
He was born about 1786 on the island of Lolland. In Denmark he had been a wealthy merchant and miller. He emigrated with wife and children sailing from Helsingør/Elsinore and arrving in Boston in 1830. A brother had left some inheritance in the USA. For some years he lived in Philadelphia and in 1837 he went to Iowa. He is regarded as one of the first Scandinavian settlers in Iowa. He started living in Muscatine County and later moved to Linn County before ending up in Iowa City in 1842. He died of cholera June 1849 while being on a business trip to St. Louis. He had 13 children. A son became a well known merchant in New Orleans, and one son a noted physician in Denmark.
